Tackling a Handmade Holiday

Tackling a Handmade Holiday

Last week I talked about getting all my holiday crafting organized, remember?

I was able to get one item from my list almost finished!  The bunny for my niece is almost complete – I just have to embroider the face.  Anyone have tips on this?  I have NEVER done it before!

I love making handmade gifts!  It brings me joy to pour my energy and love into something that I craft just for someone special.  I feel the same way about cooking.  I truly enjoy doing these things for others.  I am so pleased that this year I have a little more time available to craft up something special for everyone.

For the ladies: I am knitting some of these washcloths for my sister and her fiancé, since they just bought their first house.  I have finished one (still needs to be blocked):

My SIL just began sewing again, so I am going to work on a pair of these adorable pincushions for her!

I have not decided yet what I am crafting for either of our Moms.  I need to … quick!  Any suggestions?

For the men: I am thinking about doing one or two of these box pouches for some of the men in the family (in manly fabric, of course).

My FIL loves being in their mountain home, but doesn’t get to go as often as I’m sure he would like.  So I decided to give him a print of a photo I took of their view last time we were there so that he could have the view from their main home as well.

My Dad is a hard one to craft for.  He has exquisite taste, so whatever I make, it will have to be good.  [Insert your ideas here ...]

My kids are each getting something handmade by me.  I was going to be ambitious and make a quilt, but with time running out I have decided to make that a BIG birthday gift (not sure which b-day yet).  My oldest DD (who is 8yo) has been wanting a sleep mask.  I found some great fabric and will be making it reversible (purple on one side, black damask on the other).  I don’t have a pattern for this, so I am going to have to make it up as I go.  If it is successful, I will be sure to share it here on the blog!

I am going to attempt to sew this ring stacker (by Heather Bailey) for the baby (who is 10 mos) – I am excited to try it out.

Whew!  Looking a this, I am realizing how much sewing, knitting, stuffing, printing, and overall crafting I really have to do!  I better get busy!

Holiday Craft Organization

Holiday Craft Organization

I have so many craft projects going on right now!  Some are for us, but I need to get working on the ones for holiday gifts.  I think it is time to create a better way to organize this mess.  I am a list person.  I like spreadsheets.  I am a dork like that.  So, I opened up trusty Excel this morning and created this:

2009 Gifts - Crafts Organization List

If you’re working on any of the projects I am, let me know!  I’d love to see them.  If you want a file of the list format for yourself, just email me for a copy!

Happy Tackle It Tuesday!

FOOD

The baby is at a stage where she would like to feed herself.  Oatmeal is not such a great idea for breakfast anymore!  At the farmer’s market yesterday, I discovered natural (and quite delicious) cereals for the babe.  They are basically healthy versions of Cheerios and Rice Crispies.  Check them out:

Labor Day = Progress

Labor Day = Progress

Our Labor Day weekend was spent doing just that … lots of labor. We piled flagstone into the backyard for a new patio. Well, my hubby did most of that. I spent Labor Day setting up my new Etsy shoppe! I am so excited to get started. It is still a work in progress, and I look forward to your comments, suggestions, and critiques.

Tackle-it Tuesday

Tackle-it Tuesday

Allow me to be perfectly candid with you … last Tuesday, I never got those napkins done.  I told myself that I had to, especially since I put it out there for the world-wide-web to hold me accountable.  But I still didn’t!  I got a little flighty and forgot about the napkins, but I did get something else crossed off my outstanding projects list so I feel like I did get something “tackled”.

What did I actually get accomplished?  Well, if you’re following me on Twitter, then you’ve already seen that I finished the pillows (pillow and zippered pillowcase) for my living room chairs.  I’ve been meaning to get those done for quite a while now.  So, my husband and I are both thrilled to see a project Xed off the long list!

Today I may or may not get anything tackled.  There’s a teething baby here wanting to be held or paid attention to 24/7.  I’m hoping to get some blinds hung, but I’m pretty sure that this little monkey is not about to let that happen.  So the actual goal for this Tackle-it Tuesday?  Tackle being a good mom while attempting to keep up with the daily house duties.  After that, we will see what gets accomplished.  But I’m learning that its ok not to set lofty goals all the time – sometimes you just have to say to yourself “I’m going to bust my ass at being the best mom I can be and that is enough of a goal for today.”
